Moving Forward

My father's house was a nightmare. Your house was a dream. Now I want something in between.

- Cinderella, Into the Woods

This line is what hit me most while I was watching this masterpiece of a musical that Disney has successfully delivered on the big screen. Into the Woods is a story that gives a practical twist on the classic fairy tales that we've known and loved when we were kids, and it makes it so that we'd learn and realize that the world is not something simple and easy to understand.

We don't always get what we want; and like Cinderella, a lot of us really are indecisive on our goals and what we actually like in life. Her journey through the Woods has taught her a valuable lesson that things aren't what they're supposed to be. She may have experienced a great amount of hardship in her father's house and found such heavenly refuge with the prince, but later found that some things are just too good to be true. She later realized that to be truly happy is to find something that gives you purpose. Something not dreamy and not a nightmare, but one that gives her joy no matter what the circumstances are.

It pretty much shows that the woods are the story's symbolism for life. And with life, we learn from the wrong turns and the mistakes that we commit trying to survive and understand life more. We may lose a lot in the process, but we find out that we are not alone and the only way forward is to learn from your mistakes and your losses. It's a harsh reality, but know that there would be people around you who believe in you and would support you through traveling the woods.

So we may lose, and we may grieve because of our losses, but there's always a time when you have to stand up, move on, and continue living with the people who deserve to be a part of your life.
